Cavalier Bartolomeo "Altenasso" Barolo DOCG 2014
89 points (Wine Enthusiast)
This fine restaurant-quality imported red wine is not available at LCBO stores.
Grape Variety: 100% Nebbiolo (Lampia, Michet and Rosé strains).
Origin: Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo production area, in the Piemonte region of northern Italy.
Aging: 24 months in oak.
Tasting Notes: Garnet color with characteristic orange highlights that become more evident with aging. The aroma is quite intense, persistent and fine, with hints of blueberry and black plum and light hints of candied orange peel, dried almond, and woodland notes. On the palate, it is dry, fresh, sapid, still tannic, with good structure and persistence and an austere finish.
Food Pairing: Suggestions include beef or veal dishes with wild mushrooms or truffles, risotto or pasta with porcini mushrooms and/or a hearty, flavorful sauce; and old, strong, richly flavored cheeses.
Serving Temperature: Room temperature.
